Creator Log 1—GENESIS
LOG ENTRY 1: From Isolation to Connection: a personal story behind spore
Hello, and welcome. I’m J, the creator of SPORE. If you know me, you’ve likely noticed I’ve been… absent. In the last months, I’ve stepped away from a dream role in a prestigious organisation, navigated personal endings and beginnings, and for a while, truly felt like I’d fallen off the face of the earth.
This is me, reemerging. And I’m bringing something new with me.
SPORE—the Universe
In many ways, SPORE is the culmination of a personal growth journey. It’s a story born from Isolation, forged in Community, and built for anyone who has ever felt lost and found their way back through Human Connection.
This is that story.
ACT 1: The Breaking Point
To understand SPORE, you’d first need to understand the silence that preceded it.
During the pandemic, I was living in Vancouver, utterly alone and broken. A long-term relationship had ended. I was laid off—not once, but twice. My visa status, tethered to employment, was uncertain. Savings were running low and time was running out. The walls were closing in. But the coldest realization wasn’t about money or status; it was that the life I had built for seven years was a house on sand. When the tide came in, it crumbled. I had no community, no support system, no one to lean on in a foreign land. I had defined myself by a single relationship and a job, and when that disintegrated, so did I.
It was the summer of 2022, and I had never felt more isolated in my life.
ACT 2: TURN-AROUND
In the silence, I was forced to confront a hard truth I’d been running from my entire life—no person is an island. I had built walls. Professionally, I believed I could accomplish anything alone—I just needed more conviction. Personally, I avoided the beautiful, messy complexity of deep human connection. Emotions were complications. Relationships were drama.
How wrong I was.
At my most broken, a handful of people saw me. They reached out, and in doing so, they became my first real community. They taught me that our strength doesn't come from independence, but from interdependence.
I finally understood that humanity is wired for connection—that relationships are the source of life's vibrancy. The true beauty of being alive is found in how we relate, support, and truly see one another.
This revelation changed everything.
FINAL ACT: The Stories We Tell Ourselves
For over a decade, I've honed my craft as a storyteller. I've built narratives that persuade, inspire, and shape perceptions—from global advertising campaigns to high-stakes corporate speeches.
But now, I am turning toward a new purpose: telling stories that connect us to each other. Not to sell products, but to build communities. Not to persuade, but to help us feel less alone.
“When we tell of our stories, we don’t just share our experiences—we weave the fabric of a more connected world.”
I believe that this is the work that gives the human journey meaning. It motivates me to keep on this path towards project completion every day.
The story of SPORE is ultimately about humanity’s journey to the brink of evolution, asking what we become when pushed to the limit.
“It begins in the fractured city of Lionara, where a deadly Spore pathogen outbreak is brutally suppressed by an iron-fisted regime. A disillusioned soldier and a rogue medic must bridge their ideological divide when her infected brother develops predictive abilities that could accelerate humanity’s evolution or end it.”
